A: Stage is the third major factor for evaluation of a man’s prostate cancer. It is based strictly on finger examination of the prostate – the digital rectal examination or DRE. The table here lists the various stages and the percentage of men in these stages. Since your urologist thought your prostate felt normal, you would be stage T1c which means, as far as can be determined, your cancer is confined inside the prostate. However, this is often not accurate. In fact, staging is the most inaccurate of the three major factors in evaluating prostate cancer because of microscopic capsule penetration, an extremely important subject.
